Cyprus

Considered as one region due to its small size and homogeneous characteristics, Cyprus has made significant strides in advancing its circular and bioeconomy initiatives. With the publication of a comprehensive Circular Bioeconomy Strategy in 2021, Cyprus has demonstrated a commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth. The Circular Bioeconomy has been an integral part of Cyprus’ RIS3 and is set to play a pivotal role in the upcoming S4 for the period 2021-2027, despite the challenges. Cyprus’ bioeconomy is primarily centred around the agri-food sector, with a focus on feedstocks such as vineyards, olives, citrus fruits, and various vegetables. The authorities have recently unveiled the Strategy for Circular Economy 2021-2027, which emphasizes the adoption of Circular Economy principles and the use of more sustainable inputs for a more sustainable future.
