Greece participates in BioINSouth with the administrative region of Peloponnese. Peloponnese is located in the southern part of Greece, with a surface of almost 22,000 km2 and nearly 1 million residents. The Business Discovery for the period 2014-2020 and the Peloponnese RIS3 identified four priority sectors: 1) Agri-Food; 2) Tourism – Culture & Creative Industry; 3) Manufacturing Industry and Other Dynamic Sectors 4) Horizontal Supporting Sectors (Information and Communication Technologies, Energy, Environment, Transport, Supply Chain). Bioeconomy in Greece is supported under different thematic areas within RIS3, for example in energy, environment and waste management, although no specific national strategy exists for the moment. Specifically for administrative regions including Peloponnese, a willingness by the local authorities is strongly expressed, and clustering initiatives focused on the bioeconomy potential have emerged in the last years.
Greece and the Peloponnese region participates in the BioINSouth consortium with the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
